As I’m writing this, I keep thinking that I don’t like the name of this prompt. Saturday Stream of Consciousness sounds more interesting. I just googled it to see what would come up. This is what I found:
Stream of Consciousness
“Stream of Consciousness refers to a style of writing that is organized around the interior flow of thoughts of the narrator. Just as our thoughts flow, unconnected and sometimes disorganized, stream of consciousness writing is often disjointed, and often lacks traditional sentence structure and punctuation.”
That’s definitely a different writing style and a great way to document what goes on inside your head. Your thoughts aren’t very linear anyway. They go all over the place, moving from one trail to another. Yet, when I attempt to do something like that, it’s challenging not to try and guide my thoughts into a coherent sentence.
Essentially, I want something to describe what this theme is about. Which I guess is a brain dump session. Hmm, it is really a stream of randomness session with me just talking about a topic that comes to mind, like now. You know how ideas just pop into your head at various moments, and you have to write them down before you go crazy thinking about it or you forget it. That’s this.
It’s very annoying when you have a grand idea then you can’t remember it because you forget to write it down somewhere. That really sucks. Why is it that right before you go to sleep that your brain decides to spew out a ton of thoughts? Most are random stuff from throughout the day. I guess then your brain has had enough time to work through some things to form some kind of idea.
I really don’t like seeing grammatical errors on my page. You know those red squiggly lines that pop up when you spell something wrong. It’s annoying. It distracts me from simply brain dumping my thoughts. But I don’t want to turn it off before I forget to turn it back on.
Have you ever used Grammarly? I think it’s a great tool to have, especially for us writers/bloggers. It’s your very own personal writing assistant. It helps you with your grammar, obviously. But it also allows you to analyze your clarity, engagement and delivery. You can set the tone you want to portray in your writing too. And that’s without the premium version.
Anyway, what was I talking about? Oh, yes, stream of consciousness.
What do you think? Can it add value to your life? I think it’s something like Julien Cameron’s morning pages. You write everything that comes to mind until you fill three pages. That’s one book still on my reading list. According to what I’ve heard, it’s supposed to help you get out the junk and make room for more creative ideas. The more stuff you release from your mind, I guess the more space you have for creative expression.
Grammarly just told me my delivery is just right. However, it says that my engagement is bland. Lol, I guess it is. Not really an intriguing topic, is it?
Okay, after going through and fixing some sentence structure issues, my engagement has increased to very engaging. What do you think? Is Grammarly right about that?
Another good thing about Grammarly is that you can do your writing right on the site. Which is what I’m doing today. Usually, I write on the WordPress site or in Notion. I should just stick to writing in Grammarly because I get feedback on my writing. For some reason, it isn’t functioning in WordPress. I don’t get to view all the suggestions in Notion without clicking on the Grammarly tab. So writing in Grammarly sounds like a win-win to me.
Okay, enough with this random flow of thoughts. It’s 10:28pm on Friday 10th September. Today is my brother birthday. Does this ever happen to you? You remember the birth date all the days before it and then on the day you forget. That’s so annoying. I’m so thankful for Google calender.
I’m really going. I actually came on here to talk a bit about my week but, I guess you’ll here about it in tomorrow’s podcast newsletter. Did you miss last week’s?
