The Importance of a Night Time Routine For Adults

As babies, our parents more than likely set night time routines for us from the get go. Mainly for them and so that we sleep through the night. To me, it makes sense to continue this into adulthood. Having a night time routine and getting yourself into a habit will bring nothing but positivity. It takes 30 days to create a habit, so you should get started now if you struggle with your sleep. Over the course of this pandemic my sleep has changed so much. Some nights I’m able to fall asleep quickly, and some nights it can take hours and a sacrifice to the Gods. I’m not even joking.

Hey there! I’m Olivia and I am a lifestyle blogger at www.olivialucieblake.com. I share various posts on my website about self-love, self-care, body positivity and so much more. I am so honoured to be on Amethyst’s blog today. She has been such a great support to me and my website for so long and I appreciate her so much!

I’m sure there are so many people in the same boat as me, so you will sympathise with me on this. It took me a few weeks to get my sleeping back to normal, but I did it. And it all happened because I created a routine for myself. I am off my phone one hour before I sleep and leave my phone across the other side of the room whilst I sleep too. This helped so much in not being tempted to pick it up and check my notifications. I also started using sleep aids such as natural sleep balm and this really helped relax me. Essential oils are really good for this too, especially lavender.

So that’s enough for the intro, let’s get into the post.

IT HELPS SET GOOD HABITS

I touched on this a little in the intro, but I thought it needed its own moment. Creating a good night time routine is really important in creating healthy, good habits in life. I mean, we can all do with reducing our screen time and getting more sleep. Am I right? Sleep is so important in enabling our bodies to heal and recharge for the next day. I don’t think people realise the importance of it for us. Getting into a good routine can really help with your mindset too.

With most things in life, once you are doing one good thing for you, everything else seems to align. And by that, I mean let’s take exercising for an example. When we exercise and eat right, other things start changing in our lives. It creates a new mindset and helps to set new habits in our lives. And having a good night time routine is no different.

YOU GET BETTER REST

If you fail to prepare, then prepare to fail. One of the most important things I do before my night time routine is making sure everything else is done beforehand. I don’t want anything to distract me from my routine, because thats how important it is to me. I have experienced not getting enough rest or good rest, and it feels awful. So, I know that I don’t want to get there again. Which is why I do anything I can to ensure that it doesn’t happen.

Having a good routine before bed is pivotal to getting a good rest that night. Just like a baby has a routine, we should have one too. Theres a reason why so many parents make sure their kids get enough sleep. And you should do the same too.

YOU BECOME MORE ORGANISED

When I started with my set night time routine after a while I realised that it was helping me so much in becoming more organised. As I mentioned previously, it really helped to create good habits in my life. Which then helped create a more organised routine for me. Do you see how so many of these are linked and are a ripple effect of getting enough sleep? All of these positive things have come from just making sure I get my 8 hours a night. It’s amazing what sleep can do!

Do you have a night time routine? Do you struggle with your sleep?

Thanks again for having me here on your blog Amethyst! I am looking forward to hearing the thoughts of your readers. And don’t forget to visit my blog and come and say hi!

  1. Nice collab ladies! 💖
I swear I’ve got a night time routine, but I always find myself having to revert back to it when sleep escapes me. I’m not sure why it’s so hard to stick with one when no one enforces it for you 😅

    1. Lol. I know the feeling. My morning routine is on point but when it comes to my evenings it is a work in progress. I’m realising that my bedtime needs vary from time to time and that’s okay. Once I have one trigger that signals my brain it is time to sleep, I can work with that. Right now that’s taking a warm shower about an hour before bed.
